FAQ - 💬

❓ Is Asarum Caudatum invasive?

👉 While a strong spreader, it is not invasive. Deer resistant, its large leaves and low growth make it a magnificent groundcover to plant under shade-loving trees and shrubs.

❓ Does wild ginger like sun or shade?

👉 These plants thrive in full to partial shade, and will burn if planted in full sun. Wild ginger prefers a humus-rich, acidic, moist, well-drained soil for optimum growth.

❓ Is wild ginger plant invasive?

👉 Wild ginger plants tend to grow moderately slowly and are non-invasive with evergreen, kidney-shaped or heart-shaped leaves. Versatile and easily grown, growing wild ginger is an excellent choice in a woodland garden, as a shade ground cover or mass plantings.

❓ Is Asarum a perennial?

👉 Noted for its superb foliage, Asarum splendens (Chinese Wild Ginger) is a vigorous rhizomatous perennial boasting large, elongated, heart-shaped, dark green leaves splashed with shimmering silver.

❓ Is Asarum Caudatum Evergreen?

👉 Asarum caudatum, commonly known as western wild ginger or long-tailed ginger, is a rhizomatous, evergreen perennial that grows in a clump to 6” tall spreading to 18” wide or more.

❓ Can you grow wild ginger in pots?

👉 Wild ginger spreads slowly by rhizomes and creates a lush groundcover in shady areas. It's also deer resistant. Wild ginger can be planted in containers, which allows its flowers to be more easily admired.

❓ How quickly does wild ginger spread?

👉 Wild ginger forms a dense rhizomatous matt spreading outward from the parent plant about 6 to 8” per year.

❓ Does wild ginger have deep roots?

👉 Wild ginger is not related to the plant that produces commercial ginger, but has a similar fragrance and taste. This beautiful little plant with heart- shaped leaves on short stems that rise from a shallow underground root system, is quite unique. Its leaves are deep green above and light green below the surface.

❓ Is wild ginger poisonous to dogs?

👉 Ginger is a safe and healthy addition to your pet's diet. It provides them with gingerols, which have anti-inflammatory effects that can help reduce pain or swelling from arthritis or other conditions.

❓ Do you cut back wild ginger?

👉 Wild ginger can be divided by cutting the thick rhizomes which grow very close to the soil surface. Early spring is the best time for division but the tough plants can be moved at other times of the year – although this will slow establishment.

❓ Is ginger drought tolerant?

👉 Ginger is a tropical plant that needs moist soil and is not drought tolerant. Under-watered and over-watered ginger plants will both turn brown and die. Soil that is wet or soggy will cause the root to rot, and the entire plant will die.
